Green Flag award 2019

19 July 2019

*Nicholas Everitt Park wins the Green Flag Award for the 9th consecutive time!*

The park is managed by Oulton Broad Parish Council and Sandra Keller, chair of the parish council said "Its a thrill for our beautiful park to be awarded the Green Flag for the ninth consecutive year. Its testament to all of the hard work that goes into looking after the park, from the parish council, and all of the work by gardener, Marie, and the team at Norse, and the Friends of Nicholas Everitt Park who put in hundreds of voluntary hours every year".

The Green Flag Award recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the UK and around the world.

The last year has seen several developments in the park, with new information boards and way-finding signage and the new play equipment opened a couple of weeks ago. Several other projects, small and large, are in development with Oulton Broad Parish Council looking forward to progress on these coming in the coming months.

Nicholas Everitt Park continues to host a growing number of varied events throughout the year. Over the next few months you can enjoy free Sunday concerts on the bandstand, the powerboats on Thursday evenings, 'Art on the Railings' on 27th July, there is a craft fair on 4th August, 'Stone Age Sundays' at the Museum starting 28th July, plus of course the Lowestoft Lions Gala Day on August Bank Holiday Monday. 31st August is the Dragon Boat Festival. September sees the 3 night open air cinema in the park, Museum Heritage Open Days and the Oulton Broad Art Circle exhibition. More details on the parish council website... www.obpc.uk

Shelter catches fire.

13 April 2019

Shelter destroyed by fire in Nicholas Everitt Park will be rebuilt

Following the fire on Saturday 13th that destroyed one of the much loved shelters in Nicholas Everitt Park, Oulton Broad, commitment has been made to rebuild it.

The shelter, one of two identical ones, lies on the land of the Nicholas Everitt Park Trust, for which Oulton Broad Parish Council is the sole trustee. At it’s meeting on Monday night the Parish Council unanimously agreed to rebuild the shelter.

A representative for Oulton Broad Parish Council said: “the public’s love of the park, and these shelters is clear to see, and people have rightly expressed their upset when the fire destroyed one on Saturday. The Parish Council feels the same and is committed to rebuilding the shelter, so the view of the entrance and sunken gardens in our beautiful park is restored”.

Oulton Broad Parish Council has already had some very encouraging conversations with local organisations offering their support to the rebuild. Lowestoft College have offered time and labour from it’s carpentry and bricklaying departments and conversations are under way with a local timber merchant who has offered their support to supply the timber.

“Our talks with local people shows that community spirit is alive and well. We are thankful for the support offered so far and while there is still a lot that needs to be organised we are pushing forward to get the rebuild under way as soon as we can”.

If any other local suppliers or trades people are able to assist with materials or other support for the project please contact the parish clerk on 01502 564289 or email clerk@obpc.uk
